*Cambridge Glass Fair - 23rd February*
We are pleased to tell you that preparations for the fair on Sunday 23rd February are well underway and it promises to be a good day with the bonus of two exciting exhibitions. The foyer exhibition, presented by Nigel Benson, will feature British Art Deco glass and will include some rare pieces. Nigel always puts on a grand show and that includes on his stand, where he specialises in Powell, Monart and other mainly 20th century British glass, although he usually carries some interesting Czech and Scandinavian pieces as well among other items.
Nigel's stand is in the West Atrium along with many other exhibitors selling fine Art Deco and Nouveau glass, Georgian glass, paperweights and a variety of quality items from all periods. In the East Atrium, visitors will find an equally vibrant selection of fine and collectable glass.
The Whitefriars.com exhibition also looks to be another 'goody' and is entitled 'The Designs of Harry Powell 1873-1920'. What a marvellous opportunity to see some of the iconic designs from this great manufacturer! You will also be able to chat to some of the forum members about the pieces they have loaned for the exhibition as well as about any other aspect of collecting Whitefriars glass.
This exhibition will be located in the Old Hall foyer where you will also be able to find one of the two refreshment areas. This one sells hot food while the other, in the newer part of the building, has tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes etc.
Do not miss the Old Hall itself, where there will be a broad mix of quality glass of all types from our exhibitors including paperweights from Weights'n'Things; pressed glass from Philip Housden; 19th century table glass etc from several dealers; contemporary studio and art glass from A Heart of Glass; Isle of Wight, Mdina and other Harris-dynasty items from Artius Glass plus Scandinavian and other continental pieces, Whitefriars and other British glass, contemporary glass, art glass - you name it, you will be sure to find it!
Contemporary glass is once again well represented by our regular artists plus several new exhibitors and some old friends. You will find most of the studio artists in the Library while on the opposite side of the corridor is the Staff Room where there will be a great selection of mainly 20th century glass ranging from cool Scandinavian to vibrant Italian pieces and everything in between.
If you can come along to the fair we are confident that you will have a very enjoyable time because, in addition to the array of wonderful glass, you will be among many others who share your enthusiasm and this makes it not only a memorable day out but great fun, too.
